When most people hear the word “art,” they think of visual arts like painting, photography, and ceramic. But one of the most dynamic, evocative forms of art is dance. Movement and music come together to express abstract ideas and emotions; the body becomes both artist and medium. That’s powerful stuff!
Off Center Dance wants you to experience that power for yourself. OCD is an Idaho modern dance company whose mission is to bring dancers and artists together for the sake of art. The company has been performing in the Treasure Valley for 11 years and has also brought its breathtaking work to Twin Falls, McCall and Orofino.
Off Center Dance has created over thirty new works and six dance films. Their gifted dancers are immensely passionate and have dedicated years to the study and performance of dance. Many are dance instructors, perform in other companies, and have talents that range far outside dance. This passion and hard work have earned numerous grants from Boise City Arts and History, Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
OCD’s Spring 2019 performance was the perfect example of the company’s unique artistic vision. Titled Blur, the performance was designed to blur the lines of art in motion. Founder Kelli Brown collaborated with the Idaho Virtual Reality Council to create a mesmerizing experience of art meets technology. Patrons even had the chance to experience virtual reality for themselves. We’re certainly grateful for the beauty Off Center Dance adds to the reality of the Treasure Valley community!
