We don’t have to sell you on the breathtaking beauty or tremendous talent of Ballet Idaho. But what you probably don’t know is how much this wonderful nonprofit does to strengthen the minds and bodies of young people in our community.
Ballet Idaho’s Learning Through Dance empowers children via interactive and performance-based arts programming. Participants gain confidence, creative thinking abilities, and communication skills. The program includes performances in Treasure Valley schools and other community venues by Ballet Idaho’s Youth Ensemble. The Student Matinees program brings first-through-twelfth graders into the theater to experience a professional ballet. Teachers receive a study guide that provides students with a broader understanding of the performing arts and the historical context behind each production.
The Youth Ensemble and Ballet Idaho Academy encourage the development of young dancers. Why is this important to the Treasure Valley? Students who have a background in dance tend to achieve significantly higher SAT scores. They learn to work as part of a team, develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation, and make new friends thanks to improved social and communication skills. Physically, regular dance practice can increase a child’s flexibility, range of motion, physical strength, and stamina.
As a nonprofit organization, contributions are vital to Ballet Idaho’s creation of new works, making a difference in the lives of their dancers, supporting the Academy, and bringing arts education programs to students and organizations throughout Idaho.
